Charlotte has scheduled a game against the Carolina Tar Heels in football, September 19, 2020

CHARLOTTE, NC-- The announcement was made yesterday morning that the Charlotte Forty Niners will play the Carolina Tar Heels away on September 19, 2020.

This announcement comes as a massive surprise to Niner Nation as there was no hinting or rumor of the matchup in the works. As COVID-19 has dismantled the 2020 season for non-conference games, this has been a monumental schedule pick-up for Charlotte going into the fall.

The ACC has allowed teams to schedule only one non-conference and Duke opted to keep the game against Charlotte but moved it to a later date on Halloween. Not sure how long ago the departments scheduled this game before announcing, but it can be expected it was soon after the one non-conference rule was put into place.

This game is also a safer, shorter, and easier travel for the football team in the world of COVID-19. Charlotte is guaranteed at least $400,000 from Carolina for the game.

This will not be an easy game for the Forty-Niners as Head Coach Mack Brown has brought in a superb recruitment class this fall, but it should be expected that Charlotte will be coming out guns blazing against the Tar Heels

More information should come out in the coming weeks for the last non-conference game. Appalachian State has come up as a possible opponent, but finding a date to fill has been the biggest deal breaker so far.
