Charlotte will face the Mountaineers to start the 2020 season

It was announced last night that the Charlotte Forty Niners season will start in Boone, North Carolina against the Appalachian State Mountaineers. The game will be played at Kidd Brewer Stadium on September 12, 2020. This will be the third season in a row the in-state rivals will face each other on the field with the Mountaineers leading the match-up 2-0. It is unsaid whether fans will be allowed to the game.
Athletic Directors Mike Hill (Charlotte) and Doug Gillin (Appalachian State) were able to find a date to face each other while non-conference games are being canceled due to COVID-19.
Charlotte will definitely have something to prove in this game as the 56-41 loss at Kidd Brewer last season came down to special teams mistakes and missed opportunities. Appalachian will also have their new Head Coach, Shawn Clark, debut season opener with a hungry Charlotte team that will face the Tar Heels the following weekend.
All eyes will be on whether Charlotte can produce a winning product this fall as the non-conference lineup will bring great in-state competition and challenges to the 2nd year, Will Healy team.
As of now, the Forty Niners will be facing Appalachian State, Carolina Tar Heels, Duke Blue Devils, and Georgia State for the non-conference line-ups.
C-USA opponent Old Dominion canceled the Fall 2020 season, leaving another game open for Charlotte to fill. The season saw five non-conference games.
The Mountaineers will visit Charlotte in 2030 as a matchup for the 2020 Boone game.
